Intro to OBO - Your First Two FSCE Tours
Foreign Service Construction Engineers are considered to be "entry level" while they are on their First And Second Tours (aka, "FAST"). This post will give you some insights into what to expect on those Washington DC and Overseas assignments, and what a "direct tour" really means.
A DC Tour
When you're assigned to Washington DC, you'll work in the Bureau of OBO, in the Construction Management office, probably in one of the geographic bureaus. My first tour (in 2012) was in EUR and my second time through DC (2022) put me in EAP.

An Overseas Tour
Some folks who join get assigned to go overseas for their first tour. But there's still a lot of paperwork and training, to be done so don't expect to hop on a plane the day after your orientation class.
