Ella
We spent today relaxing in the Sri Lankan mountains near Ella. What, you didn't know there were mountains?
Hey, this is in draft right now because I'm just trying to clear out the backlog. photos are up, along with some notes, but no guarantees where the links go.
It's a work in progress.
<content>#morning #hike
Drive to Ella.
Explore around Ella village (Hike on Ella rock and little Adam's peak. Trekking around Ella village-- Nine arch bridge etc.....)
Overnight - Ella.
Zion View Ella
---
Took our breakfast on the balcony, added peanut butter from a store yesterday. Collected our laundry, packed,Checked out of sea rock after breakfast (~9:20). 22,500 rupee including the 850 for laundry.
On road, saw more water buffalo and some mongoose. Saw them weigh sugar cane by using a container crane to lift the bundle.
Crazy traffic, beep pass tuktuk left motorbike right, bus oncoming.
1220 stopped at rawana falls. Monkeys eating fruit , on the rock above the road. Monkeys=squirrels here, why take pics?
Went to train station to buy tix, could only get 3seats in the rajaxxxxx observation car (1000rupee/ea). Lunch at Chill cafe. Tried ordering a hamburger here to make up for last night...no luck. Apparently there is a nation wide 3day festival that made beef quite rare. Very good fish chips, pizza, chkn schnitzel. Light rain. First on trip. Had Sri Lanka specialty (arrays, ginger beer, lime) Kacey had Elephant rock (cinnamon infused whiskey, ginger beer, orange). Road to hotel was across street and straight up.
Zion View hotel has a great view.
Rested until 4, then hiked little Adam's peak. Path led thru tea fields past a small Hindu temple. Could hear some sort of prayer throughout the evening. Some parts kids steep stairs or trail next to significant drop off. At summit, there were two dogs. Windy. Almost chilly. Hiked down, our guide/driver gave each of the girls a brightly painted elephant. Passed some more festival activities on the road.
13 Tuesday Parsva Ekadashi, Onam
15 Thursday Anant Chaturdashi, Ganesh Visarjan
16 Friday Bhadrapada Purnima, Chandra Grahan, Kanya Sankranti, Vishwakarma Puja
17 Saturday Pratipada Shraddha

Dropped Kacey off for a massage and Greg took the kids back to the hotel to clean up then play in a very nice play area with a view and WiFi. Perfect.
Dinner was devilled chicken that tasted a lot like General Tso's chicken if you've had that. Nearly full moon, cool breeze midnight blue night sky with silver clouds over black mountains trimmed sparingly wit golden lights. Saw a bat.
Had to ask about hot water, just had to let it run. Something was skitterring over the roof in the night. Monkeys?
